Every Woman/Girl should see this!

I recently got this e-mail from a dear friend whose daughter is like a sister to Reilly. Just as a woman, I loved these videos form the Dove Beauty Campaign. “Onslaught” shows the barrage of body images we are hit with daily. “Evolution” shows a model’s face going from no makeup to Billboard. Our supermodel perception of beauty is something that does so many of us girls and women a lot of damage. That this can all start so early is heartbreaking to me. I hope to raise Reilly as a man who can appreciate natural beauty, so I guess this is not something to just watch and talk about with girls; boys can learn a lot from it too. I’ve sent it to everyone I know. Anyway, be prepared. This is powerful stuff. It really gives us something to think about:

 

This is the new Dove campaignTake a look at these short films: “onslaught,” “amy” and “evolution.” They need a little time to download, but they’re worth it. These made me weep, especially as I have a little daughter ALREADY being hit by all of this. And she’s only 3 years old. (more…)

Babysitting Co-op

Here’s the main key to our sanity these days, with Reilly starting a whole new round of the terrible twos (right before he turns three): our oft-mentioned wonderful neighbors and our babysitting co-op. We have been getting out for a date night at least once a week routinely for quite a while now.  We have a lot of neighbors with young children, so this was a no-brainer, but you could start the same thing with one friend and keep on expanding. Oktoberfest and Apple Harvest at Leavenworth

There’s one weekend left to make it up to Leavenworth for Oktoberfest. If you’ve ever been to Germany and are missing it, this little Bavarian-style village will satisfy your taste without the airline expense! We caught the tail end of the first weekend of Oktoberfest and had a really great family outing. (more…)
