Summer Art Camps at Tacoma Art Museum

Filed under: Places to go, Tacoma Related, Kids News, Local Business — Ruth @ 11:50 am

Tacoma Art Museum is offering some cool sounding summer art camps for kids ages 9-14; the information from their press release is printed below. We love the museum and have braved it with Reilly for the Eric Carle exhibit and a few other short visits with lots of adults to help monitor “Mr. Touchy-Hands.” We look forward to Reilly being old enough to take part in more of these kinds of things — these camps look fun!

For a list of more family/kids events at the museum, visit the Families & Children link under the Events and Programs tab on the website.

Would love to hear some feedback from any who attend!  Press Release follows: (Tacoma, WA) – Tacoma Art Museum’s summer art camps are the perfect way for boys and girls ages nine through fourteen to express their creativity, learn about art, and participate in fun art-related field trips. Each of the five sessions is led by a museum educator and features special guest artists to lead art-making activities. Campers experiment with calligraphy, printmaking, glass art, and jewelry making. Participants design and create their own T-shirts, explore museum galleries, take field trips in downtown Tacoma, and create works of art.

Art camps take place Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 3 pm. Each one-week session is $175 for members; $225 for non-members. Sign up for more than one week or sign up with a friend and you each save 10 percent. Scholarships are also available. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come; first-served basis. Inspired by the Chihuly Glass on view throughout Tacoma, teens create their own works of glass art and experiment with this cool medium.

Splashy Glass Studio

So hot it’s cool! Younger campers also experience the wonders and inspiration of glass by making great works of art in this medium.
